My art practice is multidisciplinary, and I work across a range of mediums, choosing whichever best suits the idea, theme or message I am exploring at the time. Over the years I have worked in ceramics, painting, drawing, collage, textiles and mixed media, moving between them as my interests and the work itself evolve.
After stepping away from ceramics (at least for the time being), I have returned to painting and drawing with renewed focus. It has become a way of refining my observation and developing ideas, while remaining part of a wider practice that isn’t tied to any one material or process.
I am interested in a range of different subjects and enjoy moving from one to another. Inspiration can come from so many places – an everyday object, a conversation, a news story, something I’ve noticed on a walk, or simply an idea that will not let go. If something captures my attention, I follow it to see where it leads.
I am currently fascinated by the small rituals and comforts of home, especially the quiet presence of sleeping cats and dogs. They remind me that some of the most meaningful moments are also the most ordinary.
Rather than working to a fixed formula, I let each project find its own direction, choosing the medium that best supports the subject and what I am trying to communicate.
Humour often finds its way into my work, sometimes in the artwork itself and sometimes through a title that adds another layer of meaning. Alongside this, I occasionally explore social or political themes, but I prefer to do so with subtlety rather than making overt statements.
I don’t want to tell people exactly what to think. Instead, I hope my work encourages them to look more closely, make their own connections and perhaps see something familiar from a distinct perspective.
I exhibit regularly in exhibitions local to Lincolnshire. Further afield my art has been selected for the ING Discerning Eye, John Ruskin Prize, Wells Art Contemporary, SAA Artists of the Year and VAA International Online.
